For New Year’s Eve 2012, a bunch of us got together and ate, drank, and played games. Katie made a delicious and spicy cajun shrimp appetizer. I immediately asked for the recipe and thought about how I could incorporate this into a pasta. It took me a couple of weeks, but I finally got around to cranking this out and it turned out really well.

The weather has finally turned cold here – down into the teens during the last week or so. That spells the end of most fresh, local produce. One of the last stalwarts in gardens here in central Iowa is kale. My favorite is the long, thin lacinato kale. Here I cranked out a quick potato and kale pizza that I like to grill, but you can easily bake it in an oven.

I recently found a new farm at the Des Moines Farmers’ Market that raises and sells some of the best lamb I’ve ever cooked or eaten, Hedgeapple Farm. They raise Icelandic and Icelandic Cross sheep for meat and fiber.
