Just a quick note for any local readers. Northern Prairie Chevre, a local producer of cheeses and other dairy products using goat milk, has just started production for the season. I’ve written about them before here and here. The women that run the farm allow their goats a natural break from milking before re-breeding them to restart milk production. That means they only produce cheese from about March to November. If you’re in the central Iowa region, you can usually find their products at the Des Moines Farmers’ Market (get there early to get their delicious cheese curds), at their farm store (see their website in my links section for directions), or at Wheatsfield Coop.
